Friends of the Library (Who are we?)
The Friends of the Hayden Public Library group was started in fall of 2005 as a non-profit organization to support the library and its needs.
Their purpose is to support programs and services at the library. They are a group of volunteers who believe libraries are important to the community. They willingly donate their time to help the library flourish and improve services throughout the year.
For the last 6 years, the Friends have given holiday cheer to the elderly in the area. The first year they gave bags with homemade bookmarks, scarves, tea and other gifts. The last 2 years they gave jars filled with ingredients for cookies, cakes, soup and drinks. They raise funds through membership dues, donations, bake sales, book sales and the Community Birthday Calendar, which is a major yearly fund raising project.
The group has taken a break from meeting, but hopes to resume this year! Check back and see what is happening.
Anyone may join the Friends group by filling out and sending in a membership form with annual dues. The dues and fundraisers help pay for various projects that go beyond the library’s budget.
Why Friends are important!
The Friends also sponsor programs for social interaction in our community such as our Annual Art Show, the Seed Library, Author Book Talks and signings, Soup Socials and guest speakers. The group is always open to trying out new and innovative ideas to sponsor, and to suggestions for needs in the community. (They would love to hear from you!) They also encourage adults and kids to be life-long readers and learners.
