Reader of the Week

Congratulations to this summer’s Readers of the Week! Submit your name everytime you visit to increase your odds of your name being drawn! Each Reader of the Week wins a goodie bag and is interviewed for an article in the Steamboat Pilot.

The first Reader of the Week in Hayden Public Library’s summer reading program is 8-year-old Margaret Sayers.  Her parents are Matt and Elizabeth. Margaret has four sisters and one brother. She enjoys playing with her friends: Payton, Lively, Madison, Olivia, Claire, Bailey, Aubrianna, Kassidy and Conner.

  Her favorite color is red, and favorite food is Chinese. She likes watching the movie “Marmaduke.” Her favorite sport is skating. She really enjoys reading the “Captain Underpants” series by Dav Pilkey. Margaret will be in 3rd grade in the fall, and her favorite subjects are P.E., art and music.  She loves to sing “a lot!” When she grows up, she would like to be a nurse or an animal doctor.

The family will be camping in the Grand Tetons this summer.  When asked what advice she would give other readers, she replied, “You can do this. Reading is fun, and the more you read the better you will be at reading.” When Margaret learned she was the reader of the week, she was shocked and excited, and made a crazy face and wiggled around!

The Hayden Public Library announces the second Reader of the Week for the annual Summer Reading Program. Five-year-old Hadley Barnes has claimed the honor! Hadley’s parents are Zach and Kelsey Barnes.  She has lived in Hayden her entire life.  Hadley has a brother Hudson, age 3.  She enjoys playing at the Dry Creek Park monkey bars and hanging out with Nana Holly and her friend Paisley.   She regularly attends many of the library programs for kids.

  The family has two dogs: Marlee and Miah. Hadley wants to be a Princess when she grows up.  Her favorite colors are orange and green. Her favorite food is pizza. Her favorite movie is Spirit, and her favorite books are anything that includes pictures or stories about horses.   She is going into the first grade and her favorite subject in school is reading. Hadley said she likes watching baseball and sometimes motocross. This summer the family may go camping near Sand Wash and she will have her unicorn tent and enjoy watching the squirrels. 

When asked if she had any advice for other kids about reading, she replied, “I would help them to read.”  When her Nana told her she was Reader of the Week she said, “I was proud of myself.”

Hayden Library’s third Reader of the Week is Luna Saleny who turned 7 on the day she was chosen!  Her parents are Taryn and Brody from Grand Junction. Luna is spending the summer in Hayden with her grandparents Gwen and Steve Bryant.   She has a one-year old brother named Holden.   Her friends are Aisha, Phoebe and Violet.  Her pet is Harvey the jumping spider; and her grandparents’ pets are dogs Emma and Timber; cats Buddha, Pinca, and Stormy the shadow cat. She is helping out at Mountain Mutts grooming that her grandparents own.

         Luna’s favorite colors are the “galaxy colors.” Her favorite show is The Amazing World of Gumball.  Her favorite food is watermelon. Her favorite books are Inside Out based on the Pixar movie and Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae. She recently learned how to ride a bike and enjoys playing with the dogs.

Her family has gone camping and hopes to go again before summer is over. Luna would like to go to Meow Wolf with her parents. When asked if she had any advice for other kids about reading she said, “Sometimes books are challenging, but read them over and over. You can also try pop-up books for fun.” When she learned she was the Reader of the Week, she said she “felt a burst of energy!”

Hayden Library’s fourth Reader of the Week is Easton Richards, age 8.  His parents are Cortney and Brian.  He has a younger sister named Charlee, age 4.  His best friend is Billy. He has lived in Hayden since he was born.  His cat is named Thomas, and his dog is named Benny.

Easton’s favorite color is black, or any dark colors, and his favorite food is pepperoni pizza. His favorite book series is “Who Would Win,” by Jerry Pallotta and Rob Bolster. Easton wants to be a scientist when he grows up.  His favorite subjects in school are math and science and he will be in 3rd grade next year.

When asked if he had any advice for kids about reading he said, “Keep reading; it makes you smarter.” When he learned he was Reader of the Week, Easton said he was “scared, because he did not want to be in the news.” But then he decided that he would be happy to be in the news for this reason.

         

Hayden Public Library’s fifth Reader of the Week for the Summer Reading Program is Maliah Archuleta-Wallace, age 9.  Her parents are Jimmy and Camie.  She has a younger brother named Alijah, age 6.  Her best friends are Kira and Eve. She has lived in Hayden her whole life.  Her dog’s names are Teddy, Fern, and Midge.  She also has giant bunnies name Casper and Jet.

Maliah’s favorite colors are blue and purple, and her favorite food is cheese pizza. Her favorite author is Dr. Seuss.  Maliah wants to be a horse trainer with her cousin when she grows up.  Her favorite subject in school is language arts and she will be in 4th grade next year.  Maliah enjoys swimming, playing with friends, and bike riding, and is participating this summer in the library’s “Book Buddies” program.  This summer she and her family have plans to go camping, possibly in the Flat Tops.

   Maliah’s advice to kids about reading is to “Keep Trying!”  When asked how she felt when she learned she was Reader of the Week, Maliah made a silly face.

       

Hayden Public Library’s Reader of the Week number 6 is Opal Schwarz. Her parents are Jenny and Chris. She has a five-year old sister named Pearl.   Her friends are Hadley and her sister.  The family has 3 dogs: Ruby, Bllta, and Remi; a cat named Goldie; 8 chickens, and 3 baby bunnies. They have lived in Milner for five years.

Opal’s favorite color is gold, and her favorite food is cheese pizza. Her favorite show is “Bluey.”  Her favorite book is Snow White. In her free time, she likes to jump on her trampoline. She enjoys swimming and takes ballet lessons in Craig. She will be in first grade this coming school year, and likes math.   When Opal grows up, she would like to become a veterinarian (like her dad!)

In two weeks, the family will visit granddad and grandma and maybe go mutton busting in Northeast Colorado.  When asked if she had any advice for other kids about reading she said, “First look at the pictures, and then read it later. Also, use your imagination.”  When she learned she was the Reader of the Week, she said she “was excited!”

Hayden Public Library’s Reader of the Week number 7 is Jackson Maher. His parents are Melody and Jacob.  He has a nine-year old sister named Autumn.   His friends are Ryker, Arden, Beckham, Aiden, and Nico.  The family has a dog named Coda.  He has lived in Hayden his whole life.

Jackson’s favorite color is red, and his favorite food is watermelon.  His favorite show is “The Last Kids on Earth.”  His favorite book is Big Shark, Little Shark, Baby Shark by Anna Membrino.      

In his free time, he likes to ride his bike around the cul-de-sac. He enjoys football and playing with Ryker.  He will be in first grade this coming school year.   When Jackson grows up, he would like to become a YouTuber.        

This summer Jackson traveled to Arizona and Minnesota and flew in an airplane for the very first time!  When asked if he had any advice for other kids about reading he said he would show them books and teach them the “3 fingers are just right” rule when picking out a book.  When he learned he was the Reader of the Week, he said he “was so excited!”

Hayden Public Library’s eighth and final Reader of the Week for the Summer Reading Program is eight-year-old Alex Albaugh. His parents are Amy and Lief.  He has a three-year old brother named Nicholas.   His best friend is Kairie.  The family has two cats: Ivy and Faux.  He has lived in Craig for seven years.

Alex’s favorite color is purple, and his favorite food is butter noodles.  His favorite show is “Ninja Turtles.” His favorite book is Gingerbread Friends by Jan Brett and also likes to read the My Father’s Dragon trilogy.  He has been visiting the library since he was a baby, and often enjoys a cup of gingerbread tea with the librarian. In his free time, he likes to play Board Kings. He plays soccer, basketball, machine pitch baseball, and takes horseback riding lessons with Megan.  He also participates in dance classes.  He will be in second grade this coming school year, and likes PE, Art, and Math.   When Alex grows up, he would like to become a doctor, policeman, and fireman all at the same time!

This summer the family will travel to California to spend some time on the beach.  When asked if he had any advice for other kids about reading he said “to try playing a board game that requires reading.  When he learned he was the Reader of the Week, he said he “was super excited!”
