Reader of the Week #1 – Bailey Henderson
Hayden Library’s first Reader of the Week is Bailey Henderson who is 7 years old. Bailey will be in grade 2 in Ecole Mt. Prevost (a French immersion school). Her parents are Paula and Ross from Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Bailey is visiting her grandma called Yah-Yah, who is the librarian in Hayden. Her friends are Lydia, Gabby, Nomi, Aisha, Luna and Alasca. Her pet is Sam, a Border Collie. She is helping out at the Hayden Library while visiting.
Bailey’s favorite colors are blue and green. Her favorite show is Bluey. Her favorite food is mac n cheese. Her favorite books are the Bad Kitty series by Nick Bruel. Her favorite subject in school is gym. She enjoys watching her dad play soccer. When she grows up, Bailey would like to become a doctor because she really wants “to help people.” She likes to go camping, play with her friends, makes crafts and play with her dolls. She also likes “Flying Squirrel” the world’s largest indoor trampoline park in Victoria.
This summer, her family visited Arizona and Colorado, and will maybe visit Hawaii.
When asked if she had any advice for other kids about reading she said, “Sometimes books are challenging, but if you use a night light and read before bedtime, that will help you. You can listen to audiobooks too.” When she learned she was the Reader of the Week, she was surprised!
Reader of the Week #2 – Haxton Booco
Hayden Library’s second Reader of the Week is Haxton Booco who is 4 years old. His parents are Karleen and Jake Booco. His sister is Hurley who is 8. He will be in preschool next year. His friends are Hudson, Kash, and Weston. Haxton has a kitty named Mulligan and a pony named Hot Sauce. He has lived in Hayden all his life.
Haxton’s favorite color is dark blue. His favorite show is Bluey. His favorite food is goulash and mac n cheese. His favorite book is Baby Happy, Baby Sad by Leslie Patricelli. His favorite subject is learning his letters. When he grows up, Haxton would like to be a welder like his dad. In his free time, he likes to play playdough. He enjoys watching the Cowboy Channel and rodeos.
His family plans to go to Elkhead Reservoir and try out their big blue kayaks soon. They also will be traveling to some rodeos around the state, as well as in Maybell.
When asked if he had any advice to younger kids about reading he said, “Read books so you will learn to like them.” When he learned he was the Reader of the Week, Haxton said, “I want a belt buckle!”
Reader of the Week #3 – Amy Cook
Hayden Library’s third Reader of the Week is Amy Cook who is almost 12. Her parents are Rachel and Adam Cook. Amy has two sisters Rylie, 13 and Amanda, 9. She will be in sixth grade next year. Her and her friend Autumn like to give each other make-overs. She has a flat-coated retriever named Lloyd. Amy has lived in the Yampa Valley for 9 years.
Her favorite color is green. Her favorite food is rice. Her favorite book is Women in White Coats: How the First Women Doctors Changed the World of Medicine by Olivia Campbell. She enjoys watching a TV series called “Gravity Falls.”
Her favorite subject in school is math and science. When Amy grows up, she plans on becoming a surgeon. In her free time, she likes to paint and visit libraries. She is a mentor for the Hayden Library’s “Book Buddy” program. She is quite the athlete who enjoys basketball, volleyball, soccer, football, baseball and skiing.
Her family plans to visit South Dakota, Paris and England.
When asked if she had reading advice for younger kids, she replied, “Even though a book might not seem interesting, keep reading it, because it might surprise you.” When Amy learned she was Reader of the Week, she said, “I was surprised and proud of myself.”
Reader of the Week #4 – Jude Baker
Hayden Library’s fourth Reader of the Week for summer reading is Jude Baker who is 7 years old. His parents are Paul and Lisa Marie Baker. He has three brothers: Reid, 14, Pierce, 12, and Elijah, 10. His brothers are his best friends. He will be in 3rd grade this year. The Bakers have an 18-year-old cat named Esther. Jude has lived in Hayden for seven years.
Jude’s favorite color is yellow. His favorite movies are “Star Trek Next Generation” and “Winnie the Pooh.” His favorite foods are meat and green apples. His favorite book is Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne. His favorite subject is handwriting. When he grows up, Jude would like to become an Electrician because he loves lights and fixing stuff. In his free time, he likes to ride his bike and pick strawberries.
His family plans to visit Vernal, Utah and watch the fireworks and stay at a motel.
When asked if he had any advice to younger kids about reading Jude replied, “Keep practicing.” He was excited to learn he was the Reader of the Week.
Reader of the Week #5 – Anthony Anderson
Hayden Library’s fifth Reader of the Week for summer reading is Anthony Anderson who is 8 years old. His parents are Thane and Paula. He will be in 3rd grade this year. The family has a Golden Retriever named Duke. He has lived in Hayden for seven years. Anthony’s friends are Mitchell, Clay, Ronan, and Ben.
Anthony’s favorite colors are blue, gold, and black. His favorite foods are pizza, hot dogs, and enchiladas. His favorite books are the “Pigeon” series by Mo Willems and the “Magic Treehouse” series by Mary Pope Osborne. He enjoyed watching both the Avatar movies. His favorite subject in school is math. When he grows up, Anthony would like to be a scientist or a police officer. In his free time, he plays games and goes to the pool. He enjoys hockey and baseball and even named his team “The Panthers.”
This summer, the family traveled to Mexico, and on the 4th of July, to Aspen to see the parade. They might also visit Minnesota.
When asked if he had any advice to younger kids about reading Anthony replied, “Start by sounding out words, and if you really don’t know the word, ask for advice.” He said he was “ecstatic!” when he learned he was Reader of the Week. “Very, very good,” was how he felt.
Reader of the Week #6 – Sebastian Schuster
What a joy to interview 11-year-old Sebastian Schuster, Hayden Library’s sixth Reader of the Week, who after winning said “I was not expecting this—I was most excited about being in the newspaper!” His parents are Jacob and Cheryl. He will be in 6th grade this year. The family has a dog named Bear, two African water frogs named Whooey and Dooey, and a salamander named Sam. He has lived in Routt County all his life and in Hayden for seven months. Sebastian’s friends are Jackson, Nicholas, J. J. and Kyler.
Sebastian’s favorite color is blue, his favorite foods are pizza, burgers, mac n cheese and quesadillas. His favorite fiction book is Godzilla by Duane Swierczyski, and any nonfiction books about the US Presidents and astronomy. He enjoyed the movie Godzilla and watches the WWE channel. His favorite subjects are math and science. When he grows up, Sebastian would like to become a wrestler, a football and basketball player and the President. In his free time, he watches tv and during commercials he reads. For sports, he practices Tae Kwon Do, Tai Chi at the library, and enjoys wrestling, baseball and football.
This summer, he was able accompany his dad to work for “Take your child to work with you” day and they did maintenance and worked very hard!
When asked if he had any advice to younger kids about reading Sebastian replied, “You should probably read about stuff you’re interested in, and especially learn about history.”
Reader of the Week #7 – Pearl Schwarz
Hayden Library’s seventh Reader of the Week for summer reading is Pearl Schwarz who is 6 years old. His parents are Jenny and Chris and she has a sister, Opal. She will be in 1st grade this year. The family has two dogs, Bolta and Remy, a cat, Goldie, three bunnies and six chickens. She has lived in Milner her whole life. Pearl loves to play with Morgan and Rylie.
Pearls’ favorite color is gold, but she says that yellow can count too. Her favorite food is cake but her favorite healthy food is chicken. Pearl is currently reading the “Blue Kangaroo” series by Emma Chichester Clark. Her favorite subject in school is math. When she grows up, Pearl would like to be a gymnastics teacher. In her free time, she loves to play outside. She enjoys dancing as well.
This summer, the family is going to visit Grandma and Granddad. She loves to ride Coco the pony when they visit. When asked if she had any advice to younger kids about reading Pearl replied, “Let others read to you. Books can be funny!” She said she was “excited!” when she learned she was Reader of the Week.
